Learning Shop

Welcome to the Learning Shop, a centre located on the Lincoln College campus offering adult learners the opportunity for personal and professional development

The Learning Shop first opened its doors in 1998 and took up residence in a shop on the High Street, bringing learning to the people. In 2005 the Learning Shop upped sticks and moved to the Lincoln College campus. This proved to be a positive move, providing our learners with the benefits of a lively college campus, which serves to enhance their learning experience. The centre at Lincoln is located in the old student union building behind Sessions, providing excellent facilities for all our learners in a friendly, relaxed, air conditioned suite. Our adult learners are now enjoying the benefit of having all the college facilities on their doorstep giving easy access to Student Services, The Friary Learning Centre, Blackfriars Restaurant, Sessions Restaurant and all other amenities offered to students.

The Learning Shop plays a part in the delivery of courses offered to the local and regional community. Our learning styles are flexible; to suit the needs of our learners and you may choose open learning, distance learning, bespoke training or work-based learning.

OPEN LEARNING

We offer a choice of learning opportunities to suit your individual needs. You can choose the days and times to access your course providing you are able to commit to a minimum of 4 hours a week study in the centre. Our opening times reflect the flexibility of this style of learning and are as follows:

Monday 9:00am – 3:00pm
Tuesday 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Wednesday 9:00am – 3:00pm & 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Thursday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Friday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

In return our dedicated team of tutors and administrators offer you full support, encouragement and will facilitate you to successfully complete the course.

DISTANCE LEARNING

In response to the increasingly diverse nature of students and their learning needs, The Learning Shop also offer distance learning packages aimed at individual learners and local and regional employers.

You may choose to undertake an IT course leading to a recognized qualification at Level 2 or Level 3, studying at your own pace and in your own time. Learners are encouraged to complete their courses, progress is monitored, and you will be provided with prompt and helpful comments on your progress in relation to learning expectations and goals.

BESPOKE LEARNING

In consultation with organisations we are committed to offering a learning package which can be tailored to meet the training needs of local and regional employers.

WORK-BASED LEARNING

Work-based learning is based on the simple premise that people do not always need to attend college to learn, as learning is part and parcel of everyday working life, and serves to enhance your continuing professional development.

A full range of courses is available as work-based learning, and includes NVQs, ITQs and a range of industry specific courses to suit your needs. The benefit to the employee is to provide up-to -date and self-managed learning to further personal and professional development. The employer benefits are numerous but most importantly this type of learning encourages businesses to become more competitive by developing the high-level skills their business needs.
