Counsellors
Professional Counsellors are available to help you deal with any personal problems, which may include difficulties with members of your family, partners, leaving home, making decisions, expressing your emotions, depression, drugs, bereavement or any other problem. All matters are dealt with in the strictest confidence, but where anyone under 18 is deemed to be at risk of significant harm, there is a legal duty under the ‘Children Act ’ to inform the relevant statutory bodies.
You can access a counsellor by making an appointment in Student Services in Lincoln and Newark or at Reception in Gainsborough.
We also have a Chaplain at Lincoln, Rev David Edgar, who visits regularly and leads many of our services and events. The Chaplain can offer spiritual guidance. He is independent of the college structures but understands the workings of college life. The Chaplain can offer time and space to people of all faiths and denominations. Home and hospital visits can be arranged in case of illness and family problems.
Multi Faith Room
There is a Multi Faith room in Lincoln. Anyone is welcome to use this room for quiet meditation, prayer or for meetings relating to faith issues or other suitable practices relating to your faith. At Newark and Gainsborough, private interview rooms can be booked for quiet meditation and prayer.
Mentoring
College can be a daunting place for anyone, but perhaps more so if you feel that you are in the minority, due to your disability or your racial or cultural background. The college has a Student Mentoring scheme with both staff and student members, which can offer support, encouragement or just a sympathetic ear at times of need. If you would like to find out more, ask your tutor or contact the Assessment Officer in Student Services for details.
