Course Description
Do you want to study for a degree or other higher education programme? Are you looking for direct entry to a degree or higher education programme? Then the Access to Higher Education Programme may be for you.
Access programmes are well established throughout the country as an alternative to A level entry to degree programmes at universities and colleges of higher education. They provide entry to a degree with no previous qualifications. The Access programme is divided into different 'pathways', catering for students with differing career and vocational ambitions. These pathways are as follows-:
- Healthcare Practitioners - also available as a 2 year evening course
- Access to Teacher Training
- Access to Humanities and Social Sciences
- Access to Science
- Access to Computing
- Access to Humanities and Social Sciences
There are 3 Core Units:
- Study Skills
- Personal and Career Development which includes discussion, practice of writing skills, time management and presentation techniques
- Information Technology which includes keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphics
- The Tutorial which is a support and guidance service
The Core Units prepare you for the requirements of degree programmes. We give you experience of all the teaching, learning and assessment styles you will find on a degree programme, so that you can be confident in lectures, seminars and discussion groups, as well as in writing essays. We start with what you can do and build up from there.
