Entry Requirements
Your experience, any previous qualifications at any level and your reasons for wanting to take a degree, will all be considered. GCSEs grades A-C in English and Maths are desirable but not essential and you should be able to work at ICT Level 2 as a minimum. It is an intense year and requires continual commitment to achieve the pass, merit or distinciton, but it can be the quickest path to success in higher education.
You will be required to attend a formal interview in the college, complete a pre-interview piece of work and attend an open day.
Progression & Assessment
Using a range of methods including report writing, delivery of presentations, observation and examination.
The anticipated route is to degrees and other higher education programmes e.g. HNC/HND/BSc Computing related qualifications. The Access programme is certified by CAVA validated by the Higher Education Quality Council. Most universities will expect you to have studied subjects or have experience in the areas for which you apply.
Some students have progressed to jobs such as database management and IT sales, but often with the thought of continuing education while working or at a future date.
Duration & Location
This is a one year programme to prepare you for a degree. You will study between 13 and 20 hours depending on your previous qualifications and in come cases this may be less than the cap of 16 hours if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance. The programme begins in September and applications for degree and diploma programmes are made at various points in the year.
Fees
The fees for 2012/13 are to be advised.
Mature students may qualify for free tuition under certain circumstances. You may also qualify for an Adult Learning Grant. Please ask our Student Services Department on 01522 876220 for details.
