Course Description
This is a work based course providing you with a qualification which will compliment the skills, knowledge and understanding already gained at Level 2. This qualification will equip learners with the necessary knowledge and understanding to perform a more advanced level of cutting and colouring practical skills.
The course will cover:
- Promote services or products to customers
- Safely control work operations
- Provide hairdressing consultation service
- Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
- Colour hair using a variety of techniques
- Provide colour correction services
- Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
- Support customer service improvements
As part of your apprenticeship you will be required to complete the following:
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
- Key Skills at Level 2 in Communications
- Key Skills at Level 2 in Application of Number
- Award in Employment and Personal Learning at Work
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
All students must comply with Lincoln College Salon regulations regarding the wearing of appropriate dress in the hair and Beauty Salons. The dress code for hair students is the relevant tunic, black trousers and black shoes.
Entry Requirements
Students must be over 16. You will require NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, Functional /Key Skills in English and Maths at the appropriate level and a satisfactory reference. All applicants will attend an interview.
As part of your interview you will need to provide a hand written personal statement (one side of A4 paper) explaining why you want to do this course. This should include information about yourself, what you hope to achieve, your plans for the future.
Progression & Assessment
Much of the study is done on the job and you will be assessed on a regular basis in your place of work. Underpinning knowledge for theory and practical will be given once a week in the College salon. Practical assessments, on line tests and oral questions form part of the portfolio of work.
On successful completion of the advanced apprenticeship, students can progress to working on Cruise Liners, in Salon Management or as a trainer. You could also progress to further study on the Foundation Degree in Hairdressing and Salon Management.
