Course Description
Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance (Engineering) is designed for those who want to work in an engineering environment and undertake the best possible preparation to achieving trained operator status within the industry. It may also lead to progression onto the Advanced Apprenticeship Framework. Candidates will normally be employed as semi skilled maintenance fitter, machinist, tool-room craftsperson. Working environment can be dirty, may involve working outdoors, at height and in all weathers. May also include travel around the area and beyond.

Entry Requirements
There is no minimum level of qualification to entry. However the candidate must be able to demonstrate the potential to achieve the requirements of the Framework. There is the necessity to pass an entrance test which comprises of online assessments for Literacy & Numeracy a handwriting exercise and a timed short answer test paper. In addition, candidates should be working a minimum of 16 hours per week.
Progression & Assessment
Successful completion of the Apprenticeship programme will provide the best possible preparation to achieving trained operator/ semi-skilled status within the industry. It may also, where appropriate provide progression onto the Advanced Apprenticeship programme and the skills required to work as a skilled craftsperson or attain technician level status within the industry sector.
Duration & Location
Apprentices will attend college on a day release basis for 2 academic years; there will be some assignment work in their own time.
Fees
The Skills Funding Agency currently meets college fees for learners aged 16 to18, learners aged over 19 the employer will have to pay a nominal contribution of £300 a year.
