Course Description

Course Description: 

To equip students with knowledge, understanding and skills/techniques they need to prepare for employment in the world of business including working in a retail or administrative environment.

Content:  

Students will study  4 mandatory units:

  • Business Purposes
  • Business Organisations 
  • Financial Forecasting for Business
  • People in Organisations

 and  7 optional units:

  • Verbal and Non-verbal Communication in Business Contexts
  • Business Communication through Documentation
  • Using Office Equipment
  • Providing Business Support
  • Working in Business Teams
  • Personal Selling in Business
  • Business Online

Students will also study Functional Skills in English, an additional IT qualification, Alcohol Awareness and sustainability.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements: 

A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 3 GCSEs at grade D or above including English Language or other relevant Level 1 qualifications.

Progression & Assessment

Assessment and Progression: 

The programme units will be internally assessed via coursework which will include: assignments, role-play, performance observations and time-constrained assessments. Students are given a grade for each unit and an overall final grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.  Functional Skills are assessed under exam conditions.

On successful completion of the programme, students may

  • Be eligible for a place on the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business
  • Enter employment in the Business, retail or administration area sector.  This includes jobs such as working in a shop, an office, a bank or building society.

Fees: 

If you are under 19 when your programme begins, you will be entitled to free tuition provided you are a European Community National.  If you are in receipt of benefit or unwaged, you may qualify for reduced fees.
