Course Description
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Diploma in IT is a qualification comprising core and specialist units which cover aspects of knowledge, understanding and competency necessary for employment within the IT sector. This programme will also enable students, if they wish, to progress onto a Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in IT.
This qualification consists of units such as:
- Communicating in the IT Industry
- Computer Systems
- Working in the IT Industry
- Website Development
- Database Systems
- Spreadsheet Modelling
- Procedural Programming
- ECDL
- Sustainability Skills
- Alcohol Awareness
An important element of this programme is the tutorial programme which offers support and guidance to the group and to individuals throughout their study.
All full time students will undertake Functional Skills in Math
Entry Requirements
Qualifications equivalent to four GCSEs at grade E or above. IT user qualifications and knowledge of computer hardware and Microsoft operating systems including MSDOS, would be an advantage. All applications will lead to a formal interview where all interviewees will need to complete a course related task.
Students will be expected to successfully pass an assignment in the first four weeks of term in order to continue on the course.
Progression & Assessment
Coursework is assessed continually during the year. Assessment is by grading from ‘Pass’ to ‘Distinction’.
Following on from this course you will be able to apply for the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in IT subject to successful completion of the course with a minimum of 370 points and a satisfactory end of year report.
Duration & Location
This is a one year full time programme.
Fees
Students on a full-time course of 12.5 hours a week who are aged under 19 on 31 August are entitled to free tuition and no exam fees provided they are European Union Citizens.
