- to provide preparation for a range of technical and management careers in engineering
- to provide specialized studies which are directly relevant to individual vocations and professions in which students are currently working or in which they intend to seek employment
- to enable students to make an immediate contribution in employment
- to provide a local progression route for students from National level programmes
- to meet part of the academic requirements of the Institute of Engineering Technology for Incorporated Engineer status

Programme Content
All HNC students will study seven core units and HND students an additional 8 units. Student progressing from recent National Certificate or Diploma programmes will be able to count 1 unit from these qualifications. (Those with older or non-traditional entry qualifications will be offered the opportunity to achieve this separately). Course availability is dependant on viable student numbers.

Teaching and Learning Styles
Accomplished by a combination of lectures, tutorials, practical work, assignments and computer based simulation.
Entry Requirements
A National Certificate/Diploma in engineering with a PM/PPP profile, or
120 points at 'A' level with supporting GCSEs.
Students with substantial relevant industrial or military experience will also be considered.
Progression & Assessment
Achievement, Assessment and Examinations
The student will be assessed through assignments, practical work, progress tests, presentations and case studies. The college is committed to maintaining an electronic individual learning plan (EILP).
Progression
All of the units in the HNC programme can be used on the HND programme. The HNC and HND may also count as credit on a Degree programme at another HE institution.
Duration & Location
HNC - One day a week for 1½ years (Monday/Tuesday 0900-1900).
HND - One day a week for 1½ years (Monday/Tuesday 0900-1900) after HNC.

£2750 per year & £50 materials
