Course Description

Course Description: 

The Diploma is designed to engage learners in developing a range of skills and personal attributes in preparation for the uniformed services recruitment criteria.  Topics include leadership, teamwork, discipline, fitness, emergency incident management, map / navigation skills. The Public Services sector has a wide variety of employment and voluntary opportunities in which learners could become involved.

BTEC Level 1 qualifications are designed to enhance learners’ work and life skills in a range of learners including:

• 14-19 year old learners
• Adults returning to study
• Those seeking to develop greater independence
• Those who had not yet achieved accredited qualifications
• Those with specific learning needs

Who is the course for?
• Students who wish to progress to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services.
• Anyone who is considering entry into the following uniformed services:
• RAF, Army, Ambulance Service, Merchant Navy, Royal Marines,   Prison Service and Police

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements: 
  • Completion of compulsory education along with evidence of a sustained interest and motivation in pursuing a career in the uniformed services.
  • Satisfactory reference regarding attendance, attitude to study and potential for development.

Progression & Assessment

Assessment and Progression: 

The majority of assessment takes place through coursework, which builds up into a portfolio of evidence. Students are set assignments which involve completing a series of tasks within a specific deadline. This style of assessment is a real strength of the course as it allows students the opportunity to use the specialist library and IT resources alongside tutor support, in order to ensure that the work they submit is reflective of their knowledge and understanding without the time pressure of exams.

Grades are awarded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

As well as written assignments, students can be assessed through group work,
presentations and practical tests/observations

A Merit grade allows progression on to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services

If you are a student aged 16 -18 years old there will be NO fees to pay. Once you have started an individual qualification you will not be liable for fees even if you turn 19 before the end.

Adult students may have to pay some or all of their course fees.
