Course Description
Previously known as the National Award in Business
A combination of business and administration units provides you with a broad range of career options as students can seek employment opportunities in business or administration.
You will also study the Certificate in Financial Studies. This is an AS equivalent qualification recognised by UCAS as well as the financial services industry.

- Starting a Small Business
In addition students will study functional skills in ICT.
An important element of this programme is tutorial and enrichment which offer support and guidance to the group and to individuals throughout their study.
Programme Content: Certificate in financial Studies
You will study 3 units:
- Why money matters
- Risk and reward in personal finance
- Making personal financial judgments.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs including English Language and Maths at Grades A-C and a satisfactory reference, or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business with a minimum of 370 points, Functional Skills English level 1 or equivalent and a satisfactory reference.
All applications will lead to a formal interview. Before the interview, students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and ability by completing an on-line activity.
Progression & Assessment
BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Business units are assessed and graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinciton. All units are internally assessed.
The Certificate in Financial Studies is assessed by 2 multiple choice external exams and a case study. Grades awarded are A - E.
Progression routes after completing Subsidiary Diploma in Business
- Entry to second year to complete BTEC National Diploma
- NVQ relevant to your chosen career path.
- Employment in business, in a variety of roles eg marketing, human resources and administration.
- Progression to a specialised programme in accounting, management, HR, sales and business administration (dependent upon their specific entry qualifications)
- Further learning opportunities within employment.
Progression routes after completing National Diploma in Business
- Entry to a general level 4 programme such as BTEC Higher National in Business.
- Management trainee in business, in a variety of roles eg marketing, human resources and administration.
- Higher level NVQ relevant to your chosen career path.
- A university degree programme (subject to the specific university’s entry requirements).
Duration & Location
This is a full time programme for one year.
Fees
If you are under 19 when your programme begins, you will be entitled to free tuition provided you are a European Community National. If you are in receipt of benefits or unwaged, you may qualify for reduced fees.
