Course Description
The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma/Diploma in Information Technology course you will be studying, is a qualification which offers a wide base of skills for IT Practitioners.
The aim of this course is to prepare students who wish to embark on a career within the field of computing or, for those who prefer, it counts towards entry into Higher Education (HND/BSc).
This is NOT an ideal course for IT Users, i.e. Training to use Office products, web browsing etc. as its content is for individuals who seek a career in an Information Technology profession. (Software Engineer, Web Design, IT Technician, network Engineer , Network Security Engineer, etc.)

An important element of this programme is the tutorial programme which offers support and guidance to the students throughout their study.
Entry Requirements
For entry onto this course you will be required to have achieved five GCSE Grade C or above including English, Mathematics and Science. All applications will lead to a formal interview where all interviewees will need to:
- Provide evidence of previous IT knowledge and skills in the form of a portfolio
- Complete a course related task.
In addition to attendance and participation, students will be expected to successfully pass 3 short assignments in the first six weeks of term in order to continue on each course.
Progression & Assessment
Coursework is assessed continually during the year and assessment is through grading from 'Pass' to 'Distinction'. Assessment of Functional Skills and ECDL is through online examinations.
From this course you may:
- Continue onto our HND or degree course
- Go onto University
- Find employment in the IT industry, i.e. - Computer Programmer, Web Developer, Network Administrator, Compter Technician.
Duration & Location
The Subsidiary Diploma and Diploma are separate full time programmes of one year each. The Diploma is offered to students who gain a minimum of 450 points (3 Passes and 3 Merits for example) on the Subsidiary Diploma, complete the functional skills qualifications and show satisfactory commitment to the course during their 1st year of study.
Fees
Students on a full-time course of 12.5 hours a week who are aged under 19 on 31 August are entitled to free tuition and no exam fees provided they are European Union Citizens.
