Course Description
This course seeks to:
- Equip students with knowledge and experience of the industry together with Level three skills and attributes required by some employers.
- Focus on the dynamic nature of the travel and tourism industry.
- Offer opportunities for the development and application of a range of level three (A level) academic skills
- Prepare learners for employment in the tourism industry.
- Prepare students for entry into higher education.
The course is divided into three terms, each term comprising of 12 weeks, where students will study a variety of travel and tourism subjects, such as:
- Visitor Attractions
- Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
- Long Haul Travel Destinations
You will also study Functional Skills in IT on the Subsidiary Diploma. Additionally, students will also study for; C&G Worldwide Tourism Destinations, UK Travel & Tourism and Travel & Tourism Support Services.
Entry Requirements
- 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, one should be in English.
- An interest in Travel
- A good reference.
Progression & Assessment
There is no Examination for the BTEC qualification, all work in internally assessed, under standardisation of BTEC/Edexcel. The C&G courses are assessed with in-house on-line testing.
On successful completion of the first year (BTEC Subsidiary Diploma) course, students who have achieved the appropriate grades will have the opportunity to progress onto the second year (BTEC Level 3 Diploma) course.
Upon completion of the second year, students can progress onto higher education (HND or Degree Level) with suitable grades and references. Upon completion of the two year programme students will have gained the equivalent of 2 A Levels - grades A-E.
Duration & Location
The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Travel and Tourism is a one year full time programme. BTEC Level 3 Diploma is the two year full time programme. They both include several vocationally relevant short courses which will add to students' employment opportunities.
