Course Description
Develop your physical skills and experience with a range of different dance disciplines including ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary. Good links with local and national production companies, performance venues and dance organisations provide valuable opportunities for learning and future employment.
Content
The course is project based enabling learners to build up dance, choreography and performance skills through workshops, rehearsals and a series of performances. Theoretical understanding of physical theatre, the performing arts business, health and the historical context of dance is integrated into practical work. You will have the opportunity to develop creative and compositional dance skills through devising, creating and performing a range of dance pieces. There is an emphasis on performing as part of a group as well as developing individual skills and disciplines. There are opportunities to work on joint projects with other courses at the College as well as for organisations in the local community.
The course concludes with a final major production for the public at our own theatre venue.
The qualification is equal to 3 A levels. Students can achieve up to 420 UCAS points which means they can choose whether to go straight into employment or onto higher education/dance schools first.
The course is based in a purpose built facility equipped with a theatre, dressing rooms and dance studio.
The course suits those with a strong interest in dance
