Course Description
Course content:
The course gives you an introduction to all aspects of graphic design including advertising, logos, promotional or informational literature, packaging and display and illustration. The course is divided into 18 units which help you to explore the exciting world of graphic design.
The first year contains projects which develop your knowledge of graphic design. You will develop the skills of :
- drawing,
- materials exploration,
- 3D making,
- ideas development.
In the second year the work is more specialist and you will explore specific areas such as:
- typography,
- words and images,
- design for advertising,
- graphics for 3D applications (packaging) etc.
Towards the end of the course you will do a final major project.
Being able to communicate on paper and verbally in a clear and logical way is very important on this course.

Entry Requirements
- Four GCSEs grade C or above including an art and design related subject (not including Expressive Arts) and either English or Maths.
- Plus a portfolio of art and design work.
- Applicants without standard qualifications are invited if they can demonstrate relevant experience and commitment
Progression & Assessment
There are no exams. Work is assessed regularly throughout the course using two types of assessment:
- one to one meetings with lecturers with the opportunity to discuss progress.
- formal assessments where work is submitted for grading.
Where can this course lead me?
Successful completion of the course will allow progression to employment or higher education in the following areas: graphic design. advertising, typography, packaging, multimedia, visual imaging, animation and illustration. The qualification has the same academic value as three A levels and provides the necessary academic points to progress to a degree course. The course is focused on successful attainment of career goals and students will be assisted in putting together a portfolio of work and preparing for interviews

If you are a student aged 16 -18 years old there will be NO fees to pay. Once you have started an individual qualification you will not be liable for fees even if you turn 19 before the end.

Adult students may have to pay some or all of their course fees.
