Course Description
Each cabinet making course aims to develop an individuals practical skills to produce quality items of furniture. At level 1 learners are expected to practice various jointing techniques culminating in small items of furniture. At level 2 more emphasis is placed on expanding constructional skills alongside veneering elements and inlay work.Level 3 provides learners with the ability to produce fi ne examples of furniture through both traditional techniques and batch production with more emphasis on the decorative aspects of furniture making.
All learners are inducted on a range of machinery and portable power tools and are expected to use
them to support the production process.
Assessment
A portfolio of work is required in combination with practical assignments. Formal practical tests and an on-line Health & Safety test are also mandatory.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. There is a formal interview and entry practical/theory tests.

Learners may progress from Level 1 to Level 2 and finally Level 3 Learners may also enter the furniture making industry at any level and can also set up in business producing high quality one-off furniture. Further studies can also be undertaken in furniture design at University.
