Course Description
This Diploma gives you an introductory to the type of knowledge and understanding required when working in child care and education and playwork. It provides the opportunity to develop basic skills in caring for children which can be used on a personal basis supporting parenthood on towards relevant employment. It helps you to identify your own goals in education and training and is suitable for 16-19 year olds. There is also tutorial support and voluntary placement.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have reached the age of 16 years. All candidates require 4 GCESs at grade E or above including English Language. You will require a good school report and reference. You will also need to have a successful interview. At interview you must show appropriate communication skills for working with children and complete a written assessment.
Progression & Assessment
In order to gain the Diploma Award you will have to complete 15 units to make up 37 credits. Your Level 1 programme requires you to study vocational units and also personal, social development units. As part of foundation learning you will be required to study three functional skills, including Maths, English and ICT. Assessment for the Diploma will be via porfolio of evidence from all 15 units. Having gained the Diploma at level 1 it may be possible to progress onto Level 2 qualifications. To progress you must gain a pass grade for your portfolio and excellent tutor references. Students must also be able to demonstrate sufficient academic development for the duration of their academic programme.
