Course Description
This unit is intended to cover a wide range of 2D drawing and editing commands and routines to aid the application and modification of the CAD software. The user will become familiar with the necessary techniques required to produce and edit drawings of medium complexity and prepare the drawings for output to hard copy. It is intended that this unit can be delivered within the context of a wide range of design and drawing specialisations.
Content
This unit covers 13 learning outcomes:
- Use a layering system and different line type styles.
- Define and use a system for grouping objects into libraries.
- Produce isometric drawings within the 2D environment.
- Define and use User Co-ordinate Systems.
- Use complex dimensioning routines.
- Use different drawing spaces.
- Produce hard copies of drawings.
- Make inquiries of an existing drawing and place reference points.
- Use a means of pre-command object selection to carry out editing.
- Change the properties of drawing entities.
- Edit symbols, blocks and hatched areas.
- Modify polylines.
- Remove from and rename items in a drawing.
Entry Requirements
City & Guilds 7579 Level 2 – ‘The Principles and Practice of 2D CAD’ or similar. In the absence of any formal qualifications entry will be at the discretion of the course tutor.
Progression & Assessment
Two drawing assessments and an online assessment for underpinning theory.
Progression
Students who successfully complete this unit may wish to attempt the 7579 Level 3 – Unit 2. – Three Dimensional CAD.
Duration & Location
One evening per week for 2 hours, for 36 weeks.
