Course Description
The ECDL Advanced qualification is designed to progress computer skills from the internationally successful European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL) to the next level of competence. It is based on the ECDL task-based model, and tests an individual’s competence at a much higher level with particular Microsoft Office applications.
Content
There are 5 independant units available:
- Word Processing
- Excel Spreadsheets
- Access Databases
- PowerPoint Presentations
- Improving Productivity Using IT
(The final module, Improving Productivity Using IT, incorporates a work-based scenario which assesses skills gained in each of the 4 previous modules. Please not this unit is required if you wish to achieve the overall Level 3 Certificate although each application is certificated seperately.)
The units are offered through a flexible attendance option within the Learning Shop or, alternatively, as a distance learning option from home or work. In both cases support is provided by trained instructors. Note, however, that distance learners will need access to the correct version of Microsoft Office (units are available in both Office 2003 and Office 2010) to use the learning materials. Attendance is still required at The Learning Shop for enrolment and for assessments.
Entry Requirements
Candidates will need good IT skills (level 2, equivalent to ECDL Extra) prior to starting this course and should already be using the applications regularly. Consequently, it is mandatory to take a diagnostic IT test before enrolling on this course. This will identify your current skills level and, upon completion, a dedicated tutor will advise whether this course is suitable for your learning needs.
Progression & Assessment
There are 5 modules available and each of the 5 modules are completed by passing an independant assessment. All assessments are taken at The Learning Shop.
Progression
The Learning Shop offers a range of courses for IT users and would be happy to discuss further progression options. Please contact the centre for more information.
Duration & Location
The course duration is 12 weeks per unit. However, the flexible style of learning means that many learners will complete earlier.
Learners are required to attend The Learning Shop for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours a week (on a flexible basis) in order to obtain the qualification.
Alternatively, the course is offered as a distance learning option - so the learning can be done at home or work. Note, however, that the learner will need access to the correct version of Microsoft Office (materials are avaible for both Office 2003 and Office 2010) to use the learning materials. Attendance is still required at The Learning Shop for enrolment and for assessments.
Fees
