Course Description
What is a National Vocational Qualification?
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s) are work-based qualifications that assess the skills and knowledge people need to perform their job role effectively.
The NVQ level 1 and 2 provide candidates with the skills necessary to plan and lead sport sessions.
Who is the course for?
The course is compulsory for those students who enrol onto a sports or public services related BTEC programme.
Course Content
NVQ Level 1
Help provide equipment for active leisure, learning and well being activities
Help to give good levels of service to participants and customers in active leisure, learning and well being
Deal with accidents and emergencies
Help to plan and prepare an active leisure, earning and well being session
Lead an activity within an active leisure, learning and well being session
NVQ Level 2
Prepare for activity sessions
Lead activity sessions
Conclude and review activity sessions
Support the work of the team and organisation
Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation
Support equality and diversity in active leisure and recreation
Support the development of the sport or activity
Set up, take down and store activity

How is the course assessed?
Throughout the course you will be asked to prove your competence by providing evidence that shows you:
• Can perform all the specified tasks consistency to the required standard
• Understand why you are doing things (knowledge and understanding)
• Can apply the required skills in different ways (range).

These NVQ’s can offer a progression route into employment opportunities in the sports industry, or a wide range of study in further education.
