Course Description
The programme is aimed at candidate aged between 16 and 24 (There may be opportunities for people aged 25 years plus) who are working in the Electrical Contracting Industry or have been offered a Company Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation or Maintenance. Applicants must be eligible to join a Government Funded Advanced Apprenticeship Programme.
The programme meets all of the requirements of the National Advanced Apprenticeship Qualification Framework and will provide successful candidates with the qualifications necessary to join the JIB Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (Formerly the JIB UK Register of Electricians).
The qualifications required by the Summit Skills Electrotechnical Advanced Apprenticeship framework are:
- The City and Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) – (C&G 2357)
- Functional Skills at Level 2 in Maths and English plus IT at Level 1
- The Electrotechnical Occupational Competence Test (Referred to in the electrical trade as the AM2 Test)
Entry Requirements
- All candidates must successfully complete a college devised pre-programme entry assessment, this consists of a written assignment, a maths test, (With a pass mark of 60%), and basic skills tests in English and Mathematics in which level 1 passes are required.
- Hold or be predicting GCSE Grades ‘A* to ‘C’ (Grade ‘D’ may be considered) in English Language and Mathematics.
Progression & Assessment
Lincoln and Newark Colleges will offer two qualification pathways from the City and Guilds 2357 syllabus (Electrical Installation or Electrical Maintenance), candidates will be required to complete a selection of units which will be a combination of knowledge assessed in college by examination (Written and Multi-choice) and assignment and practical skills which will be assessed in the work place and the colleges Skills Assessment Centre.
Successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship Programme will provide the qualifications required to work as an electrician and candidates will have the opportunity to add additional qualifications in order to gain Approved Electrician Status or move on to Electrical Engineering qualifications.
Duration & Location
The programme will run over a period of 3 to 4 years and involves a combination of day and block release to college.
Fees
Currently there are no fees for Advanced Apprentices aged between 16 and 18 at the start of the programme who are participating in a recognised Advanced Apprenticeship Programmes. Candidates aged 19 plus may be required to pay annual course fees (Note: Other arrangement may be available for candidates aged 19 to 24). Candidates aged 25 plus and those who fall outside the apprenticeship framework who wish to gain electrotechnical qualifications should request information when sitting the entry assessment.
