Course Description
This programme is designed to meet the requirements of engineering trainees undertaking formal training in engineering with optional bias towards either production or technician. It is also designed to meet the requirements of local and national employers seeking to employ new engineering staff.
Course Content
Includes City & Guilds 2800 Level 2 Certificate in Engineering and NVQ 2 Performing Engineering Operations:
Mandatory teaching and assessment covering: Health and Safety, working efficiently and effectively, engineering technology, communication in an engineering environment, engineering calculations, planning engineering activity and bench fitting
Optional Units: Technician and Manufacturing
- Computer Aided Manufacture and preparing and proving CNC programmes
- Producing Engineering Drawings using a CAD system
- Manufacturing Technology
- Machining by Milling
- Machining by Turning
A mix of traditional and directed self study methods are used. Most teaching is undertaken in dedicated engineering workshops and facilities.
Entry Requirements
An assessment is carried out prior to enrolment on the programme.
Progression & Assessment
Successful completion of the course will allow progression to ongoing full time level 3 study on BTEC Extended Diploma or part time study on the City & Guilds Certificate in Engineering Level 3 or BTEC Diploma.
Duration & Location
One year full time. 15 hours per week (3 days) taught study with additional up to 3 hours for Functional Skills and 3 further hours self directed study.
