Course Description

Course Description: 

This programme will provide the skills which will enable students to move into industry and become junior stylists.

The programme focuses on units of study which include:

  • Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Change hair colour
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques

Optional units

  • Full salon reception duties
  • Perm and neutralise
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work  

Your progress will be continually assessed through a series of written and practical activities. There will be an element of external testing. On achievement you will receive a pass certificate.

All students must comply with Lincoln College salon regulations regarding the wearing of appropriate dress in the Hair & Beauty salons. The dress code for hair students is black trousers, black tunic and black shoes.

Supplier details and order forms for the uniform will be sent to students as part of the enrolment process

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements: 

Entry Age 16+ It is advisable for students to have a GCSE grade of C in English and a minimum of 2 other D grades. Selection is subject to satisfactory interview, school report and character reference.

Progression & Assessment

Assessment and Progression: 

All practical work will be assessed within a salon environment with written tests collated within a portfolio of evidence. On successful completion of the programme students can progress to the Diploma in Hairdressing Level 3.

All students on an FMA programme will carry out Functional Skills in Maths and English plus an Award in Employment and Personal Learning at Work. Assessment will be via a portfolio of evidence and external tests.
