Course Description
Each Trainee attending this programme will be working towards individual unit credits for a National Vocational Qualification. A modular pattern allows trainees to progress at their own pace on units of competence approved by the Construction Industry Training Board and City and Guilds. Trainees can also work towards individual units.

NVQ Diploma level 2 Trowel Occupations (Bricklaying): QUA813
Conform to General Safety in the Workplace
Conforming to Efficient Work Practices in the Workplace
Moving and Handling in the Workplace
Erect Masonry Structures in the Workplace
Set Out Masonry Structures in the Workplace
Place and Finish Non-specialist Concrete in the Workplace
Trainees who successfully achieve the units listed will be awarded an NVQ Bricklaying Level 2: however individual units may also be studied and assessed.

Confirming Work Activities and Resource for an Occupational
Area in the Workplace
Development and Maintaining Good Occupational Working
Relationships in the Workplace
Confirming the Occupational Method of Work in the Workplace
Setting Out Complex Masonry Structures in the Workplace
Erecting Complex Masonry Structures in the Workplace
Laying Domestic Structures in the Workplace
Trainees who successfully achieve the units listed will be awarded an NVQ Bricklaying Level 3; however individual units may also be studied and assessed.
• Functional Skills are incorporated in all programmes.
Note that the above qualifications require some elements to be assessed through provision by the candidate of work based evidence, in portfolio format.
Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required; however applicants may be required to take literacy, numeric and aptitude tests and to prove suitability for the course through an interview process.
Progression & Assessment
Achievement, Assessment and Examinations:
A combination of coursework assessment for bricklaying elements and external examination for Health and Safety, leads to achievement of an NVQ.
Progression:
On completion of Level III NVQ a choice of routes are available, including:
i) Construction Management courses
ii) Higher Education courses
Duration & Location
Attendance will be by block release at level 2, and day release (including evening class) at level 3.
Fees
If you are under 19 on 31st August when your programme begins and study more than 12½ hours per week, you will be entitled to free tuition and no examination fees, wherever you live provided you are a European Community National. Mature students may also qualify for free tuition and no examination fees, please ask our Guidance Services for details.
