Course description
The Introduction to the Hair Sector Level 1 programme aims to provide you with an opportunity to understand the basic principle of Hairdressing. You will develop the skills required to assist in a hairdressing salon supporting the stylist.
The course will focus on the following:
- Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
- Presenting a professional image
- Shampoo and condition hair
- Creating an image using colour for the hair
- Hand care
- Styling Women’s hair
- Plaiting and twisting hair
- Nail Art
- Colour hair using temporary colour
- Create a hair and beauty image
- Health and Safety
- Salon reception
- Working with others in the Hair and Beauty Sector.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to attend an interview, take an initial assessment and have 2 references, 1 from your school or last place of education and 1 character reference.
You will be required to have personal hairdressing tools and a specific salon uniform. Details of these are provided during the enrolment process.
Progress & Assessment
You will be assessed through practical observation, oral questioning, projects, assignments, written tests and portfolio work.
All candidates will follow a functional skills programme of maths and English.
Progression from the Level 1 Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector to the VRQ Level 2 Hairdressing, Level 2 Beauty Therapy or Apprenticeships will not be guaranteed without meeting the entry criteria for the course, including a clear disciplinary record and at least 95% attendance.
