Course Description
The Pre A is an intensive and demanding course for students who want to join our A Level programme but fall just short of the entry requirements. It can be suitable for students who had their study seriously disrupted by illness or other factors.
The course provides the opportunity to gain 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, which has become a standard expectation of achievement for young people.
The programme contains GCSEs in English, Maths, Science, Sociology, Psychology, ICT, Additional Science and BTEC Law. While the first three courses improve important skills that underpin many courses and which employers are looking for, Sociology, Psychology and BTEC Law offer new and additional options that students are unlikely to have had at school.
Employers often look at applicants GCSE results even if they have subsequently achieved A Levels and a degree. A clutch of A and B grades will always look impressive.
Students have weekly group tutorials and regular one to one meetings with their personal tutor. Advice on future aims, careers and goal setting are important parts of the course.
Entry Requirements
Applicants who took GCSEs at school will have at least five at grade D or above including English Language.
Applicants will be interviewed and asked to sit short tests to confirm their suitability for the course. They may also attend group interviews.
Progression & Assessment
Gaining 5 A - C grade GCSEs opens the door to A Level study and many other courses such as National Diplomas.
Duration & Location
This in a one year course, students study for around 20 hours a week.
Fees
If you are under 19 on 31 August when your programme begins and are a full time student, you will be entitled to free tuition and no examination fees provided you are a European Community National.
