Course Description
The Woodwind programme hs an internatonal reputation for producing skilled craftspeople, able to repair the whole range of the woodwind family, from Piccolo to Saxophone. Repairs cover the range from basic replacement of pads to complete overhauls involving advanced repair techniques.
All classes take place in one well-appointed workshop with first, second and third-year students working together as a combined group. This creates a pleasant and industrious atmosphere and promotes informal peer discussion and mentoring.
The course includes the making of a complete Boehm system clarinet from basic raw materials. Tuition is on a one-to-one basis in the well-equipped workshop. The course consists of 36 weeks per year divided into three terms. Each week comprises approximately 19 taught hours with access to computers and the library in the learning centre during other periods
Only 8 new students are usually admitted each September to the course.
Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for the course but it is desirable that applicants have some experience with practical or craft subjects and are able to demonstrate good hand to eye co-ordination. It is not essential that the applicant play an instrument but they will find it advantageous.
