e-safety was the topic of discussion in Dean’s building today. Dan Hawbrook from Lincolnshire County Council and Tony Bailey from Securus gave out safety tips and advice to students on how to stay safe over the internet. Facebook was a popular topic as people often have open privacy settings, meaning anyone can see their profile. Dan was putting students to the test by asking them to look up their profile through an example one he set up to see how much private information is on show to the public.

Other popular topics were passwords and hackers, Dan and Tony emphasised the importance of using a secure password rather than just a pet’s name or the word ‘password’ which is very common. Students gained a lot from this as they were shown how to change privacy settings accordingly and advised on what to do if someone were to hack into their social media or email account.
