Tune into BBC4 @ 7:30pm on Weds 14th for 'Scrapheap Orchestra'

Tune into BBC4 to see the talented staff and students of Newark College’s School of Musical Instrument Crafts feature in the fascinating documentary ‘Scrapheap Orchestra’. (Scheduling details below - next showing Weds 14 Dec @ 7:30pm)

 

The film follows a group of 11 professional instrument makers as they endeavour to kit out the BBC Concert Orchestra with instruments made only from scrap materials! The deadline was a performance at the BBC Proms in July 2011 conducted by Charles Hazelwood.

Lecturers Andy Wheeldon of the School of Woodwind and Rob Cain of the School of Violinmaking, aided by students from their Schools, worked over three months to produce 21 instruments. (12 Violins, 4 Violas, 2 Clarinets, 2 Flutes and a Piccolo.) The documentary was filmed at the College and on location at workshops, scrap yards and orchestra rehearsals.

The Documentary is to be broadcast on BBC4 on a number of occasions during the week commencing 11th December. These will include some or all of the following:

Monday 12th Dec 12.30am

Wednesday 14th Dec 7.30pm

Thursday 15th Dec 2.00am
