Lincolnshire Police Mark Identification on Bikes for Free

Lincolnshire Police Mark Cycles

A bike is stolen every 71 seconds in the UK.

In 2010 alone, there were a reported 115,147 bike thefts and it is estimated that only one in five people report their stolen cycles.

Lincolnshire Police, today, visited Lincoln College to mark student and staff bikes for free to make them easier to identify, should they get stolen.

Based in the Abbey Foyer, they were marking the owners’ postcode and house number on the underside of the frame. They were also fitting an immobitag under the seat, which emits a unique radio frequency identification number when activated online so the police can identify the owner if it gets recovered.

If you didn’t get the chance to go along to this session, they are hoping to return and offer this service again in a month’s time around 19th March 2012.
