Automotive, Electric/Hybrid - IoT

Our Institute of Technology (IoT) programmes have been designed and created in collaboration with employers, colleges, and universities to develop the talent and skills of our students - enabling them to be work-ready with clear career progression.

The IoT Automotive programmes are for students who have a keen interest in advanced automotive maintenance and are looking to progress into Master-Technician status.

These qualifications have been designed to be practical, engaging and motivating to support learners in gaining the advanced knowledge and skills required by light, heavy vehicle, lift truck and transport refrigeration maintenance employers, as well as those wishing to enter into the electric/hybrid vehicle sector.

IoT Automotive Courses Available:

  • Certificate in Advanced Automotive Studies Level 4
  • IMI Award In The Diagnosis, Testing And Repair Of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles And Components (VRQ) Level 4

Watch our quick video to learn more about these courses:

Not ready to start a Level 4 course?

We have a range of Level 1 to 3 courses in Automotive Engineering which can have progresion onto our Level 4 IoT Automotive courses.

  • Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness Level 1
  • Certificate in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness Level 1
  • Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities Level 2
  • Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement Level 3
  • Certificate in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness Level 1
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – Calibration Level 2

More information on Level 1 to 3 courses in Automotive Engineering can be found here.

The Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (IoT) is a collaboration between the University of Lincoln and Further Education providers across Greater Lincolnshire.

The IoT specialises in delivering high quality technical education across industries with a focus on Engineering, Digital, Automotive, Manufacturing, and Constructions subjects, opening up opportunities for students to gain industry-relevant skills to overcome some of the key challenges facing the technical industries.

The courses have been designed to develop the essential skills and experience needed for a range of pathways to ensure learners complete their training career-ready.

At Lincoln College, we have a range of Level 4, 5 and 6 coures covering four IoT pathways:

Level 4 and 5 qualifications are designed for specialist learning and are suitable for people currently working in, or wishing to enter into, technical and professional jobs, and/or managing and developing others.

A Level 4 and 5 qualification represents a greater understanding and a higher level of learning than that gained from secondary education level. It also acts as the bridge between Level 3 and 6 - helping those to progress to the next stage of education where they may not have had the qualifications previously to do so.

There is an increasing demand from employers for qualifications at this level in key sectors like automotive, engineering, digital, management, business and more - helping to plug the current skills gap in these areas.

Students studying at this level can often study part-time and continue with their current employment.

Enrolling employees on Level 4 and 5 course can also be a great way for employers to upskill their workforce benefiting both the company and their staff.

Companies that train staff at these levels may receive improved productivity, better adherence to quality standards, a workforce that can do a greater variety of work and an ability to respond effectively to change.

Take a look around our Bishops Building where our Automotive Engineering training takes place.

Automotive students also have access to our multi-million-pound Grade II listed Gibney building which houses our IoT.

It has been designed to replicate the latest progressive working environments.

We have also equipped all of our workshops and classrooms with the latest IT hardware, computing, electrical engineering and automotive engineering equipment.
