    Air & Space Institute

  • Start Date

    September 2025

    1 Year (Full-time)

Studying A-Level Maths opens up many doors for you. It's really important if you're thinking about going into engineering, physics, economics, or the natural sciences at university. Maths also comes in handy for biology, psychology, and computer-related courses.

You’ll need to make sure you're comfortable with algebra and graphs, and be ready to put in the work right from the start.

Maths at this level consists of the study of Pure Mathematics and the study of the application of mathematics to the physical world: Statistics (for understanding and interpreting information) and Decision Mathematics (for understanding the mathematics involved in Business and Computing).

The course develops understanding and resourcefulness in the use of mathematics.

To gain the AS award, you will study two pure mathematics core units (C1 and C2) covering topics in algebra, trigonometry, calculus and coordinate geometry, amongst others, and the D1 application unit in Decision Maths.

To convert your AS level Mathematics into A Level Mathematics you study two further pure mathematics core units (C3 and C4) covering more algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and other topics, and an application unit in Statistics (S1).

Entry requirements

You’ll need five GCSEs (minimum grade Four/C or equivalent), to include Maths (minimum grade 7). Exceptions can be made for mature students with equivalent qualifications or relevant
experience.
