Access to HE courses are for prospective students who wish to apply for a Higher Education course at university or a similar Higher Education establishment.
Access to HE students are fully supported throughout their time at college with a personal tutor making the transition to full-time education as easy as possible. We will support you to learn new skills in a high quality learning environment with specialist classrooms and have developed a virtual learning platform to support you in completing your work outside of college.
Once students have completed an Access to HE course, they will have the opportunity to stay on at college to study Higher Education on a wide range of courses directly linked to your Access programme, which means you won’t have to move away from any family or work commitments to continue with your studies.
All Access to HE courses are validated by CAVA.
The Advanced Learning Loan is a new scheme introduced by the government to help mature learners study for qualifications that will improve their employability and develop high level skills and knowledge.
Loans are specifically designed for those aged 19 and over, who are intending to study on a Level 3 or higher course – including Access to HE diplomas.
If you successfully go on to complete an HE qualification following an Access to HE course – you won’t even have to pay the loan back.

The Access to Healthcare Practitioners (HCP) pathway is an intensive course for those aged 19 and over, especially for people who are returning to education. It is specifically geared towards a graduate career, and prepares students to study at university level towards future employment in a range of healthcare-related careers. The course aims to help students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to apply for various health / social care degrees, such as Adult Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science or Health and Social Care. Completion of the Access to HCP course allows students to gain direct entry to their chosen degree; successful students are able to gain places at UK-wide universities as well as with local providers the University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University.
The Access to Humanities and Arts course is a one (academic) year course intended to prepare students for entry into Higher Education (University Degree Level Courses). This 60 credit Diploma course offers History, English Literature and Study Skills and has proved to be a highly effective course not only with regard to success with university entrance in general but also with regard to entrance of the applicant’s first choice university.
The subject options of History and English Literature offer a range of highly varied and interesting modules on a broad range of topics within the discipline such as The Suffragette Movement and Shakespearean Drama respectively.
The degree destinations of learners from the Access to Humanities and Arts course have included Literature, History, Law, Philosophy and Archaeology
This course aims to equip students the skills and knowledge needed for Higher Education, particularly those wishing to advance your scientific knowledge in a way that is tailored to improve confidence in lectures, seminars and discussion groups as-well as writing essays. This is an intensive course for students aged 19 and over, especially intended for those returning to education.
Successful Completion of this course is designed to allow you direct entry into Higher Education with 96% of our students who achieve their Diploma going on to a wide range of Degree courses such as Biomedical sciences, Marine Biology, Physiotherapy and Biochemistry. Students are able to obtain places at UK wide universities as well as our local provider of Lincoln University
During this programme, you will study: Biology, Chemistry and Maths with optional units in Physics
The Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Pathway is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for Higher Education. The course is tailored to improve confidence in lectures, seminars and discussion groups as well as writing essays. It is an intensive course intended for mature students (minimum age 19 years) and is especially intended for those who are returning to education after several years or looking for a ‘new start’.
Most students study Psychology and Sociology but there are options to combine one of these subjects with either History or English Literature. Should you choose to do this, however, you would have to extend your attendance at college beyond the three days.
Successful completion of the course is designed to allow you direct entry into Higher Education after one year of study (as opposed to the two years of the A level route) on to a wide range of degree courses such as Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Social Policy, Politics, Social Science etc. The vast majority of students achieve a place at their first choice institution and whilst most mature students elect to study locally at one of Lincoln’s two universities previous students have obtained places at UK wide universities including the prestigious ‘Russell Group’ institutions including Cambridge, Edinburgh, Bristol, Durham etc.
This course is ideal for mature students (aged 19+) with a keen interest in sport and exercise, who would like to study a related Higher Education course, such as a foundation degree in sports coaching and development, or sport and exercise science. You will study a range of units and complete graded assessments throughout the year in a range of formats, eg. practical observations, written assignments, tests and presentations.
The Access to Teacher Trainers Pathway is an intensive course for those aged 19 plus, especially designed for people who are returning to education. The course is specifically geared towards a graduate career, and prepares students to improve their confidence and knowledge through a series of lectures, seminars, discussion groups, presentations, as well as essay writing.
Successful completion of this course is designed to allow you direct entry into Higher Education, with over 95% of our students who achieve their Diploma going onto a wide range of Teaching roles and other Degrees depending on their subject specialism at UK wide universities as well as our local providers, Lincoln University and Bishop Grosseteste University.
During this programme you will study 2 of the following National Curriculum subjects: English Literature, Economic and Social History, Human Biology.
