A Chartered Manager is someone who can take responsibility for people, projects, operations and/or services to deliver long term organisational success, with the professional recognition of their ability to deliver impact, behave ethically and demonstrate their commitment to continual learning and development.
This qualification is suitable for anyone working in the role of a Manager, Senior Manager, Head of Department and Operations Manager.
It will develop and help managers in managing complexity and delivering impact at a strategic and/or operational level with management and leadership responsibility for setting and delivering organisational objectives through a wide range of functions.
It will also help managers who want to develop fully all aspects of their management and leadership skills, knowledge, self-awareness and behaviours. These include strategic decision making, setting direction and achieving results, building and leading teams, clear communication, developing skills and motivating others, fostering inclusive and ethical cultures, leading change, project management, financial management, innovation, risk management, & developing stakeholder relationships.

The maximum duration, inclusive of the End Point Assessment, is 48 months. The time taken for completion is dependent on the skills and experience of the student and may be reduced as a result of APL. Once a student has registered interest in the CMDA standard a ‘Skills Scan’ is completed by a Work Based Assessor to ensure that the programme and the student are suitably aligned and that sufficient learning can take place as part of the learner journey. Therefore, a candidate with significant knowledge and experience may be awarded APL for up to 60 credits in year 1 of the degree programme and would subsequently reach the gateway to End Point Assessment after only 2.5 years of study. In contrast to this, students with limited knowledge and experience may take a longer period of time to demonstrate the behaviours required as part of the CMDA. In these instances a student would reach the gateway to End Point Assessment after a longer period (up to 4 years).
This course is subject to validation by the University of Hull. The validating institution is responsible for awarding the qualification at the end of the programme. Students on validated courses are OfS registered, funded and taught at Lincoln College and it is the responsibility of the College to manage all aspects of this provision. The validating institution maintains an oversight of the programme throughout the academic year and must be satisfied that students are being taught in line with the required academic standards of the awarding institution. A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff points from the following:
? BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject
? GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level
? Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher.
? For mature applicants some experience may be taken in lieu of A Levels / BTECs
GCSE English – grade C/4 or above or Functional Skills level 2 GCSE Maths – grade C/4 or above or Functional Skills level 2
Students who are non-native English speakers or who have not studied the final two years of school in English must demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate with:
? IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4 or 5 qualification
Applicants will be required to complete an additional entry assessment to demonstrate their competency levels in written English.
Each application is assessed on an individual case-by-case basis. In some instances vocational experience may be taken in lieu of academic qualifications at level 3. Where necessary, applicants may be required to complete additional diagnostic assessment tasks in order for their knowledge and skills to be established.
The formative On-Programme Assessment methods will be agreed between the HEI and employer, and are likely to include an appropriate mix of assignments, reports, practical exercises, projects, and feedback on behaviours via 360 degree feedback or equivalent mechanisms.
In addition the apprentice will create a portfolio of evidence, which will demonstrate how learning has been applied, their achievements and capabilities. It is a collection of evidence which demonstrates evidence of the skills, knowledge and behaviours an apprentice has acquired against the standard, and supports application for professional recognition on achievement of the apprenticeship once the apprentice has passed their end-point assessment. There will be regular reviews (at least quarterly) between employer and HEI with a formal annual on-programme assessment of progress. Towards the end of the programme, the apprentice will undertake a synoptic work-based project, which will bring together elements of their learning from different parts of the programme and show their accumulated knowledge and understanding of management and its application in their organisation.
The End Point Assessment is by a robust panel interview, which will include a presentation on the synoptic work based project, review of portfolio evidence, and a question and answer session This combination will fully test that the apprentice meets all the requirements of the standard.
Successful apprentices will become chartered Members of the Chartered Management Institute (CMgr MCMI).
We anticipate that all students on this degree programme will remain employed with sponsoring organisations. However, students that do leave the CMDA part-way through the qualification will be supported to transfer across to a suitable entrance point on the BA(Hons) Business and Management programme, delivered also at Lincoln College, via APL.
Completion of the CMDA will ensure that graduates are suitably qualified and capable of progression to a more senior management role in the future.
Additional compulsory course costs will be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary. The scheme allows students to access the remainder of the bursary (up to a maximum value of £500 / £250) for additional optional courses, workshops, professional memberships and resources. There is no cash alternative. Students who wish to access opportunities in excess of the Career Degree Bursary may do so at full cost to themselves.
