Apprenticeship Standard in Property Maintenance Operative Level 2

Under supervision of the Trust Premises Manager, the successful candidate will be involved in the daily running and upkeep of the school building and grounds. Mainly based at the Mercer’s Wood Academy School.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • To take a role in ensuring the facility is cleaned in accordance with the appropriate schedules and methods laid down and by proper and safe use of products and equipment provided
  • To assist with the handling and distribution of furniture, goods and equipment, including setting up and dismantling for assemblies, examinations, meetings, lettings and other special events
  • To undertake training in the application of cleaning materials COSHH, use of equipment, safe lifting, access and handling techniques
  • To assist in the distribution of cleaning materials and equipment and to assist tin the monitoring of stock levels and repair conditions
  • To assist with ensuring that the grounds are free of litter, including routine emptying of outside litter bins and to ensure that essential areas are kept free from hazards such as snow, ice, wet leaves or obstructions
  • To assist with the upkeep of the landscaping and sports facilities around the site
  • To carry out basic maintenance, decorating and refurbishment work around the school grounds and buildings
  • To assist in maintaining the safety and security of property and persons by ensuring rooms and windows are locked securely after cleaning and immediately informing the Premises Manager or appropriate emergency service of any unusual circumstance’s apparent losses or intruders
  • To keep secure any keys and passes issued and not leave and keys or passes unattended

Skills Required

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels in the school
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to use a PC
  • Strong customer service ethos
  • Skills and experience in maintenance and repair work or able to demonstrate the potential to develop these skills

Qualifications Required

GCSEs at grade A/8 - C/4 in English and maths or equivalent

Personal Qualities Required

  • Positive and self-motivated with a willingness to learn new skills
  • Calm and able to prioritise tasks and work under pressure
  • Good communication skills and ability to relate to children and adults in a school environment
