Fashion starts with textiles, and on this course you will learn how to develop and use a range of textile applications to enrich your fashion design work and garment creations.



BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles will teach you about fashion and textile design; from designing through to creating. You will explore the use of textiles within fashion learning and experimenting with techniques and processes such as print, hand stitch, manipulation and deconstruction of fabrics, patchwork and other forms of embellishment. Using the traditional craftsmanship of pattern cutting and garment construction you will also develop skills in translating design ideas in to innovative fashion outcomes.



You will be taught how to present your work professionally; learning how to create and develop a portfolio that represents you and your personal practice. You will be introduced to presentation techniques and explore how to generate an online presence to showcase your work. A combination of in-house and live project briefs, throughout this highly practical course, will work towards preparing you to work creatively and effectively in the diverse industry of fashion.

12 Hours contact - Monday to Friday



You will study on the Lincoln College Christ Hospital Terrace Campus for the full duration of the course.



Christs Hospital Terrace is a Grade 2 listed building located in close proximity to Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle. Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that the building is accessible, there are known difficulties for students who require the use of a wheelchair. It is therefore recommended that potential applicants contact the course team to arrange for a more detailed needs assessment to be conducted.

A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff points from the following:



BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject

GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level

Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher.



For mature applicants some experience may be taken in lieu of A Levels/BTECS



Plus

GCSE English Grade C/4 or above

GCSE Maths Grade C/4 or above



EU and International applicants



NARIC confirmed equivalent of 64 UCAS points

IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Equivalent English language qualifications are acceptable for applicants not requiring a Tier 4 student visa

Progression

Graduates will have a diverse range of practical skills for pursuing careers in the creative industry.  Taking on roles such as fashion designers, product developers, pattern cutters, print designers, stylists, garment technologists and merchandisers could be potential options. Alternatively, graduates may choose a career in manufacturing, consultancy or decide to set up their own business.



After successful completion of BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles students can also progress to postgraduate study or into the industry.

Tuition fees will remain unchanged for the duration of a students continuous enrolment.







Additional Course Costs



Additional compulsory course costs will be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary. The scheme allows students to access the remainder of the bursary (up to a maximum value of £500 / £250) for additional optional courses, workshops, professional memberships and resources.There is no cash alternative. Students who wish to access opportunities in excess of the Career Degree Bursary may do so at full cost to themselves.
