Social Science is about trying to make sense of everyday life; it provides the opportunity to analyse a range of social problems, sorting the possible solutions from an often bewildering range of alternatives. It is drawn from current contemporary and topical debates with an application and practicality that is inspired by traditional and modern architects of social theory and practice alike. The programme provides critical insight into everything from crime and punishment through to globalisation and human rights. It takes core and sometimes difficult questions of human existence and attempts to lay bare their social, political, psychological and economic components. The course becomes increasingly demanding in its content and complexity as the programme progresses.

Study Details
You will study on the Lincoln College Campus for the full duration of the course.
Full Time - 3 Years
Whilst the sessions delivered at College will typically fall between Monday and Friday from 9am – 5pm, it is expected that students will complete the online study, in addition to the independent study, outside of these times. Students should also make themselves available to complete work experience hours outside of these times. Many of the opportunities offered through the college will require commitment during evenings and weekends.
A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff points from the following:
BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject
GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level
Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher.
For mature applicants some experience may be taken in lieu of A Levels/BTECS
Plus
GCSE English – Grade C/4 or above
GCSE Maths – Grade C/4 or above
EU and International applicants
NARIC confirmed equivalent of 64 UCAS points
IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Equivalent English language qualifications are acceptable for applicants not requiring a Tier 4 student visa

Graduates will have a strong set of practical skills for pursuing careers in a range of sectors, for example, Prison and Probation Services, Local Government and Police Authorities. After successful completion of BA (Hons) Social Science students can also progress to postgraduate study or research.

Additional Course Costs
Additional compulsory course
costs will be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary. The scheme allows
students to access the remainder of the bursary (up to a maximum value of
£500 / £250) for additional optional courses, workshops, professional
memberships and resources. There is no cash alternative. Students who wish to
access opportunities in excessof the Career Degree Bursary may do so at full
cost to themselves.

This course is validated by the University of Hull. The validating
institution is responsible for awarding the qualification at the end of the
programme. Students on validated courses are OfS registered, funded and
taught at Lincoln College and it is the responsibility of the College to manage
