The CertHE Digital Learning Design programme offers students the opportunity to learn and create engaging and effective online and blended delivery courses for use in schools, further and higher education sectors, within businesses, training organisations and by individual content authors.
The programme contains modules of study providing discrete digital and planning skills that, when combined with the course project, allow the creation of a fully formed digital course. Assessment activities focus on producing tangible outputs that can be of significant practical value in real world education and training situations.
Typical Course Structure
- Digital Authoring
- 21st Century learning design principles
- Principles of online pedagogy
This programme is a blended format of face to face and remote learning. For the face to face learning, students will study on the Lincoln College Campus. Full-time, one year. Course contact hours are to be confirmed.
Whilst the sessions delivered at College will typically fall between Monday and Friday from 9am – 5pm, it is expected that students will complete online study, in addition to the independent study, outside of these times.
Students should also make themselves available to complete work experience hours outside of these times. Many of the opportunities offered through the college will require commitment during evenings and weekends.

This programme has a strong emphasis on practicality and applicability. Students are not merely assessed on their understanding of the key pedagogical and technical principles of digital learning design, but their ability to apply them within their own professional environment.
A number of modules will be assessed using portfolios which require the completion of a number of smaller tasks that are spread across the academic semester. This ensures that assessment deadlines are not bunched at the end of a semester and that students receive feedback on a regular basis that contributes to their development and improvement.
Completion of this Level 4 course will naturally complement and support a teacher’s further professional and academic development. Besides opening opportunities to pursue professional specialisations within the field of digital learning design, the practical and theoretical skills that participants will have developed during this course will amply support them in any further Level 5 or above qualifications in education and teaching.
Per Academic Year
- Home Students - £8,500
- International Students - £9,500
Tuition fees will remain unchanged for the duration of a student’s continuous enrolment.
