This course includes practical and theoretical elements of Carpentry & Joinery, providing you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress whilst topics at an appropriate level to begin. This programme will also offer you support, preparing you for the construction industry.
During the course, you will study: Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction; Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication; Maintain and Use Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools; Prepare and Use Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools; Produce Woodworking Joints. Generally, you will have gained a good level of wood working tools and the ability to interpret and produce technical drawings.
You will need to have GCSEs in Mathematics and English GCSE Level 2/3. You will also be required to hold a successful interview at a Welcome Day. You will be required to provide a satisfactory reference from an employer or recent school/college report.
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
Successful completion of the Level 1 Certificate could lead onto a Level 2 Diploma in Site or Bench Joinery or furniture cabinet making. You will also be able to access potential careers including: working within the construction industry and working as a joiner.
Successfully completing this course would prepare you well for an apprenticeship and/or you could progress from the Level 1 onto the Diploma Level 2. You’ll need to decide whether you’ll progress onto the Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery course.
