This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills of experienced practitioners who wish to work as an assessor in their vocational area. The qualifications are generic and apply across a wide sector of assessment and training. The Award or Certificate is made up of a unit, or combination of up to three units. The units you do will depend on where you are assessing and the methods of assessment you are using.
• Unit 301: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
• Unit 302: Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
• Unit 303: Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding
Everyone does Unit 301, completion of which demonstrates underpinning knowledge and understanding of the assessment process and practice.
If you are only assessing in the workplace, you do units 301 and 302:
L3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
If you are assessing in a non-working environment, i.e. college, you do units 301 and 303: L3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
If you are assessing both competence in the workplace and underpinning knowledge and understanding, you do units 301, 302 and 303:
L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
"Be an experienced practitioner in the subject you wish to assess (3-5yrs according to sector guidelines)
-Hold minimum of a level 3 qualification in the subject you wish to assess
-Have a minimum of two candidates to assess
-Have a named counter signatory and mentor
The evidence is collected on the electronic portfolio OneFile, so planning and assessment can be done via distance learning.
