Computing is one of the most popular career choices within the UK, as of February 2014 the UK government identified that the ICT sector was worth £58 billion. Including the creative and digital industries, the IT sector employs over 1 million people or 3.7 per cent of the country’s active population. It is predicted that as a knowledge-based economy in the UK becomes a reality, that nearly half of the UK’s GDP will come from this sector within the next decade.
The Level 2 programme is delivered by a team of subject specialists who have an average of 12 years computer science teaching experience this is an important difference between us and most schools and sixth forms that normally only have one or possibly two teachers to teach the whole curriculum.
The course offers topics such as:

• Website software
• IT Security for Users
• IT Software Fundamentals
• IT User Fundamentals
• Developing Computer Games and Puzzles
• Optimise IT System Performance
• Set Up an IT System
The qualification you will be studying is a TLM Level 2 Extended Certificate in IT User Skills and includes opportunities for you to improve GCSE English and Mathematics Grades as part of your programme of study.
Pathways
This qualification offers two paths, software and hardware.
For Hardware this will be a starting point to a career in the following:
• Software and hardware installations and completion
• PC troubleshooting and repair
• IT Technician
For Software this will be a starting point to a career in the following:
• Web developer
• Software developer
• Games developer”
You will need 4 GCSE’s at Grade D/3 and above; a GCSE Grade C/4 in either English or Maths would be advantageous. BTECs in Science or ICT related subjects will also be considered. You will be screened in Maths and English and are required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Studying a Level 2 ICT qualification at Lincoln College can lead to many exciting entry level job opportunities including roles such as Hardware and Software support, and basic software developer. Additionally progressing to study a Level 3 BTEC in IT or Creative Media here a Lincoln College.
