Career Colleges are a new concept in education offering real industry job opportunities and input by guest speakers, site visits and projects to start your career in the sector. This course includes practical and theoretical elements of Painting & Decorating, providing you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress whilst topics at an appropriate level to begin. This programme will also offer you support, preparing you for the construction industry.
Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma could lead onto a Level 2 Diploma. You will also be able to access potential careers including: working within the construction industry and working as a painter.
During the course, you will study: Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication; Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Working Platforms; Preparing Surfaces for Decoration; Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller to Non-Complex Areas; Applying Foundation and Plain Papers; Producing Specialist Decorative Finishes; Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction.
You will need GCSE’s in Mathematics and English (minimum Grade E or equivalent). You will also be required to pass a trade test as-well as a literacy and numeracy test. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
