If you want to pursue a career in the animal industry then this is an excellent place to start. This course will introduce you to the underpinning skills and knowledge in animal-related subjects and giving you experience required develop your understanding. You will participate in daily animal care and farm skills such as mucking out, feeding and tidying of the farm. This work will be supervised by the college staff and you will be given advice and help on how to improve your work skills.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care, preparing you for employment within the sector.
During this course you will explore both theoretical and practical subjects and you will study the following topics: Care of Animals; Animal Handling and Husbandry Skills.

You will need to show animal handling ability which will be assessed during a taster day. You will be required to attend an interview and taster day on ‘the yard’ and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) along with evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation in animals and the animal industry; and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.
Assessment is a combination of coursework and practical assessments.
