You will learn all about hair and make-up in relation to the media industry. From working in television and theatre to face-painting and photographic work. This course has been designed to develop your creative skills in hairdressing and media make-up, the knowledge and the confidence to progress within this exciting industry. It is also a great foundation for further study.
During this course, you will study the following units:
Body art design;
Skin tanning techniques;
The art of colouring hair;
The art of dressing hair;
Make and style a hair addition;
The art of photographic makeup;
Providing eyelash and brow treatments;
Creating an image based on a theme in the hair and beauty industry;
Client care and communication in beauty -related industries;
Working with colleagues within beauty-related industries;
Health and safety practice in the salon
You will need 4 GCSE’s including English Language and Science (minimum Grade 5/C or equivalent). You will also be required to pass a skills test as-well as be screened in Maths and English.
You will be required to attend an interview/experience day and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Those progressing from Level 1 Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing may be accepted if they have completed Functional Skills or GCSEs and a satisfactory reference from their existing Personal Tutor.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is a combination of theory and practical assessments with online tests throughout the year.
What courses and careers could this lead to?
Successful completion of the Level 2 programme may lead to a Level 3 qualification in Professional Make-up Artistry, or Hairdressing. You would also have access to a wide range of roles within the industry including careers as a mobile, self-employed make-up artist, an apprentice, or employment in a retail or salon environment.
