If you want to act, sing, dance or work backstage in the performing arts then this is an excellent course for you. This course will provide you with practical skills, understanding and knowledge of the careers in the theatre industry. During the course, you will explore the different types of jobs available, practice your rehearsal skills and take part in plays, musical pieces, songs and dance and help ‘front of house’ and backstage. You will learn to be organised and gain the confidence to perform in front of an audience. There will be opportunities to perform at venues around the town and to gain work experience as part of your course. You will meet and work with professional practitioners from industry and see live professional shows and events. When you complete your course you may be able to progress onto Level 3 Performing Arts, Music, Dance or Production Arts to further develop your skills and knowledge in your chosen profession. You will be based in our own dedicated theatre workshop space in Newark.
You will need 3 GCSE’s preferably including English Language (minimum Grade 3) or equivalent qualifications. You will be required to attend an interview, where you have an audition. You are also required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. The final project is graded pass, merit or distinction.
