If you want to pursue a career involving horses, then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge in horse-related subjects and giving you experience required to further develop your understanding. Work experience is an important part of this course as it prepares you for employment within the horse industry. As part of your course you will be involved with Yard Skill sessions which take place on the yard you are based at.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management or a career in the horse industry.
During this course you will explore both theoretical and practical subjects and you will study the following topics: Horse Health and Welfare; Fit and Maintaining Horse Tack and Clothing; Horse Handling; Feeding and Watering; Caring for the Competition Horse; Riding Horses on the Flat and Riding Horses over Fences.

You will need 4 GCSEs (minimum grade D). You will be required to attend an interview and taster day on ‘the yard’ and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) along with evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation in horses and the horse industry; and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.
Assessment is a combination of coursework and practical assessments.
