The programme is designed to meet the requirements of learners from the Gainsborough area who wish to undertake formal training in engineering with optional bias towards either production or technician. It is also designed to meet the requirements of local employers seeking to employ new engineering staff.
The units that you will study include: Health and Safety; Working Efficiently and Effectively; Engineering Technology; Communication in an Engineering Environment; Engineering Calculations; Planning Engineering Activity and Bench Fitting; Engineering CAD Drawing, Welding, aspects of Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance and the use of Milling Machines and Lathes.
You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply however the nature of both the learning and assessment required for the qualifications is such that you should be working at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths. An ability to understand and carry out exact instructions is essential due to the nature of the activities. You will also be assessed for apitude as well as literacy and numeracy test. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Progression from this course will be onto the Level 3 engineering standard or any of the level 3 provision detailed on the website.
