On this two year Level 3 Extended Diploma course most of your working week will be spent in an art studio or Mac suite. You will develop your design skills by doing practical work and you will have the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of media and ways of working. There will be demonstrations where we show you how to do things and lectures which teach you how to study the design work of others. You will also learn how to plan a project and organise your time so that later on you will be able to work independently and meet deadlines.
You will develop practical skills to communicate ideas, create composition and layout, apply colour theory, select and use typefaces, manipulate images and create designs for print. We will also teach you how to be visually aware and how to reflect on your own progress.
This qualification has been designed to improve the skills needed for any career path and will enable you to demonstrate adaptability, independence, professionalism, team work, reliability, imagination and creative flair.
There will also be gallery visits and trips. You will meet professional artists and designers and undertake work experience in the Creative Industries as part of your course with the opportunity to develop an online presence to promote your work globally. This qualification allows you to build the portfolio of work that prepares you well for progression onto Art Foundation Diploma or an HE course. Certification is awarded by the prestigious UAL Awarding Body, widely regarded as the best university for the Creative Arts in Europe. Established over 150 years Lincoln College of Art and Design at Christ’s Hospital Terrace (in the Cathedral Quarter) will be your base. You will need 4 GCSE’s preferably including Mathematics, English and an Art of Design subject (minimum grade 4), or a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design. Expressive Arts is not considered.
You will be required to attend an interview, where you will need to show your art and design ability in a portfolio of artwork. You are also required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
