Virtual open day - Air & Defence College
24 June, 2020 – starting at 5.00pm - 7.00pm
If you want to pursue a career in art and design then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to investigate all forms of art and design. Students learn how to use practical skills and techniques to visualise and develop ideas through a series of projects that explore 2-dimensional and 3 dimensional ways of working. Working with specialist tutors you can explore a wide range of subjects such as drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking, photography, Photoshop, fashion design, 3D design, textiles and ceramics. Research and contextual studies develop understanding of contemporary and historical developments in art and design. There will also be gallery visits and trips. Students are taught how to plan a project and organise time; to work independently and meet deadlines, with opportunities to exhibit work. You will meet professional artists and designers and undertake work experience in the Creative Industries as part of your course with the opportunity to develop an online presence to promote your work globally. This qualification allows you to build the portfolio of work that prepares you well for progression onto Art Foundation Diploma or an HE course. Certification is awarded by the prestigious UAL Awarding Body, widely regarded as the best university for the Creative Arts in Europe. Established over 150 years Lincoln College of Art and Design at Christ’s Hospital Terrace (in the Cathedral Quarter) will be your base. CHT has excellent facilities including a print room, 3D workshops (ceramics, glass, plaster, wood and metals), a dark room, 5 MAC suites, fashion workshop, photography and media studios and light and airy art studios.
You will need 4 GCSE’s preferably including Mathematics, English and an Art of Design subject (minimum grade 4), or a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design. Expressive Arts is not considered. You will be required to attend an interview, where you will need to show your art and design ability in a portfolio of artwork. You are also required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. The final project is graded pass, merit or distinction. The qualification is equivalent to achieving 3 A levels
