Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts Dance Level 3

If you want to pursue a career as a professional dancer then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to develop a range of dance techniques. You will gain practical experience in different types of performance and build up your confidence and stamina as a dancer, as you work through a series of practical projects. You will take part in several performances during the year, keeping a reflective journal of your progress, attend workshops with visiting professionals and learn from various trips to West End and touring professional shows. Your final major production will be staged at a public theatre venue. Upon successful completion, you will be able to seek employment within the dance industry or progress onto Dance Schools or Higher Education. During this course, you will explore the following topics: rehearsal techniques; choreographing your own work; the history of the dance industry; developing core strength and stamina to prevent injuries; solo and ensemble pieces; audition techniques; combining singing with dance and aspects of preparing a production. Certification is awarded by the prestigious UAL Awarding Body, widely regarded as the best university for the Creative Arts in Europe.

You will be based in our own dedicated performance space which has a 180 seater theatre, dressing rooms, dance studios, rehearsal rooms, MAC suite and technical theatre workshop.

You will need 4 GCSE’s preferably including English Language (minimum Grade 4) or equivalent qualifications. You will be required to attend an interview, where you have an audition. You are also required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).

There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. The final project is graded pass, merit or distinction. The qualification is equivalent to achieving 3 A levels
